"You have cancer" is one of the most devastating things a person could hear.  It is something that you cannot prepare for and it creates an instant fear in adults, students, and children alike.  Unfortunately, there are more than 4,000 Americans that hear that phrase everyday.  It all happens in a matter of moments and the first few days are filled with shock and disbelief.

The National Collegiate Cancer Foundation (NCCF) helps young adults pursuing higher education and assists them with the transition from being a cancer patient to being a cancer survivor.  An individual is considered a "cancer survivor" from the time of diagnosis, through the balance of his or her life.  Family members, friends, roommates, and teachers are included in this definition as well.

The NCCF believes being a survivor is extremely important.  We believe taking on a "Will Win" attitude is crucial to your battle with cancer.  Taking on such an attitude will increase your own chances of survival and improve your overall health.  Currently, there are more than twelve million people in the U.S. living with, through or beyond cancer.  Ask any one of them and they will agree that you cannot fight the disease alone.  You need a team of supporters and caregivers that will help you with your fight.  Cancer is one of the toughest challenges both physically and mentally.  NCCF believes it does not have to be a downward spiral, but a ticket to celebrate life.  Cancer is another obstacle or challenge that is very scary, but with the help of supporters, other survivors, the right resources, and most importantly, the right attitude, you can WIN!
