About the Kevin Carrico Memorial Scramble
Kevin Carrico was in his third year of medical school at the University of Louisville, studying to become a pediatric oncologist, when he was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. His goal was to help children as they faced their battle with cancer, just as he did after he overcame Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 17. Kevin faced his battles with a sense of humor and a positive attitude like only he could. Although Kevin passed away in 2019 at the age of 25, his family vowed to carry on his legacy. The University of Louisville awarded Kevin a posthumous doctorate of medicine in 2020, and he received the Dr. Presley F. Martin Award, given to the senior student chosen by his peers who possesses and reflects characteristics of a good physician: competence, ethical behavior, leadership, compassion, and humor.
In 2022, Kevin’s family established the Keving Carrico Memorial Tournament to benefit the National Collegiate Cancer Foundation. Kevin was a previous recipient of NCCF’s Survivor scholarship. Our mission is to carry on Kevin’s legacy to aid other young adults facing and pursuing higher education goals.

2024 Legacy Scholarships Announced
Since 2014, the NCCF Legacy Scholarship has helped over 155 young adults pursuing education who have lost a parent or guardian to cancer. The Legacy Scholarship is made possible by a partnership with the Steinau family in honor of their dear friend Jenn Carter. Jenn courageously battled breast cancer for two and a half years and miraculously gave birth to her fifth child a year before she was taken from us in August of 2008. Jenn’s friend Brooke Steinau was by her side during her treatments. During one her visits with Jenn, Brooke asked her what she wanted most for her children. Jenn replied, “I want them to go to college.” Brooke realized that so many parents who have also lost their battle also wanted the same for their children, and thus, she was inspired to launch the Legacy scholarship in Jenn’s honor.
